About us

PGDLabs – Al Seddiq Medical Laboratory is a highly-specialized center for genetics with long history of working with reproductive medicine clinics throughout the world, and since 2014 stablished in Kuwait.

Our mission is to support Assisted Reproduction Clinics to:

• Improve their pregnancy rates for couples with fertility problems

• Help couples at risk for having a child with a genetic disorder to conceive a baby free of the disease

PGDLabs in Kuwait is equipped with latest technologies and is daily run by our European team of highly specialized biologists.

We provide a high-qualified, accurate, efficient and reliable 365-days service tailored to the needs of our clients and patients.

We are following a strict international quality control program every year (Cytogenetics European Quality Assessment, CEQA), an inter-laboratory program for quality control of the FISH-based and NGS-based PGD for aneuploidy screening, reciprocal translocations, genetic counselling and sperm FISH, and internal quality control performed by our partners in Spain, including continuous training of our staff.

PGDlabs is made up of a multidisciplinary team of specialists in cytogenetic, molecular biology and genetics, which for many years has been leaders in the field of PGD in Barcelona (Spain). Their director, Dr. Esther Velilla, has experience on Reproductive Medicine in the United States, and leads the team of geneticists and embryologists specialized in IVF, having together completed thousands of PGD cycles. PGDLabs is managed by Dr. Carmen Morales, with wide experience in the field of Human Genetics and accredited by the AEGH (Spanish Association of Human Genetics) in Spain.

Dr. Esther Velilla Garcia

Master in Cellular Biology and PhD in Cell Biology and Genetics from the University of Barcelona, postgraduate course in Medical Genetics at the University of Valencia and Master in Executive MBA, ESADE Business and Law school (Barcelona) with 20 years of experience in the field of assisted reproduction and preimplantation genetic diagnosis. 

She has led various projects of applied R & D and its publication in national and international journals as well as book chapters. From June 2010 to 2015, she was president of the Interest Group in Genetics and Reproduction of the Association for the Study of Reproductive Biology (ASEBIR) in Spain and actually member of the board team.

She is co-holder of PGDlabs Kuwait and ReproClinic IVF Center, located in Barcelona (Spain).

Dr. Carmen Morales

She obtained her degree in Biology in 2000 at the University of Barcelona. She started working at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, as a Specialist in the Biochemical and Molecular Genetics Service, where she developed her research in the field of molecular cytogenetic.

In 2011 obtained her PhD in Human Genetics at the University of Barcelona.

Since 2012, she is working the field of Reproductive Genetics and in 2014 moved to Kuwait to start a new PGD laboratory, PGDlabs Kuwait. She has been teacher in the Master of Genetic Assessment (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona) and published more than 20 manuscripts in peer reviewed international journals, different chapter books and collaborated in several research projects.

Since 2012, she has the accreditation in Human Genetics by the Spanish Association of Human Genetics. She is co-holder of PGDlabs Kuwait. She is co-holder of PGDlabs Kuwait and ReproClinic IVF Center, located in Barcelona (Spain).

Dr. Daniel González

MsC

PGDLabs Kuwait Geneticist

He obtained his degree in Genetics in 2013 at Autonomous University of Barcelona. Throughout the year, he has developed his career in the fields of assisted reproduction technology and reproductive genetics on different IVF centers in Spain.

In 2015 obtained his MsC. in Reproductive Biology and Cytogenetics at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, and in 2016 obtained his PGDip in Medical Genetic by Valencia University and in 2020 a PGDip in Clinical Genetics and Personalize Medicine by UNIR.

Since 2015, he moved to Kuwait to become a member of the team of PGDLabs. He has been teacher in the Master of Human Reproductive Medicine (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, UAB) and has been participant in different congress and meeting in Asia, Europe and The Middle East.

Our lab is fully equipped with FISH and NGS technology to guarantee the higher standards of quality in all our tests.

We are located on 6th floor Jabriya Medical Center, Jabriya block 1A, Kuwait.
