Diagnostic methods for a healthy baby

Couples that have been identified as carriers of a clear genetic disease or chromosome disorder can be offered the PGT-M or PGT-SR methods.

• PGT-M, Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Monogenic Diseases. Formerly known as PGD, this is a diagnosis that we perform on the embryo before transferring it to the uterus. The test consists of analyzing the DNA of the embryos to detect those that have inherited a genetic mutation. In this case, during the IVF procedure, we implant the one that has not been affected, and discard the ones that have.
• PGT-SR, Preimplantation Genetic Testing of Chromosomal Structural Rearrangements. Here, this technique is used to avoid the risk of conceiving a baby with unbalanced structural anomalies. The embryos that have been developed during In Vitro Fertilization are analyzed to implant those that are considered to be chromosomally healthy.
