Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis

differences between PGT-M and PGT-APreimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, which has been recently replaced by Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT), is a method by which we can detect and prevent the transmission of genetic and chromosome disorders to the embryos that will be transferred to the uterus through In Vitro Fertilization.

Who is a Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis designed for?

Couples who are at risk of transmitting a hereditary disease to their future children. Thanks to the PGT technique, at PGD-Labs we can identify those embryos that bear a specific genetic disease (by applying the PGT-M technique) or a chromosome disorder (through the PGT-SR technique).

This method is commonly used to analyze and detect embryos in families that are affected by the following:

  • A single genetic disorder. The genetic condition is passed on to the offspring as per a number of heredity patterns:
    • Autosomal recessive: Both parents are healthy but carry some genetic mutation. This means that the risk of their children having a disorder is 25%.
    • Autosomal dominant: One of the parents is bearer of a disorder or mutation. In this case, the risk is 50%.
    • When a healthy mother has a mutation in one of her X chromosomes. There is a 50% chance of passing on this disorder to her offspring.
  • Chromosomal rearrangement. One or both partners have the chance to be bearers of a balanced chromosomal rearrangement, which means that they are at risk of having offspring whose chromosomal arrangement is unbalanced. At PGD-Labs we perform these tests by applying the FISH technique.

At PGD-Labs we study each case in depth and determine the best method to accomplish the goals set out by the couples.

Our laboratory is composed of skilled biologists and technicians who use the most cutting-edge techniques to accomplish the best outcomes

If you want to know whether the embryo is healthy or it has any chromosomal or genetic disorder before it is transferred to the uterus, we encourage you to get in touch with us and request information about our Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis, now known as the Preimplantation Genetic Test (PGT).
