The stages of fertility in women

Having a great and healthy family is one of the greatest wishes of women and couples in Kuwait. Currently, the average number of children per woman in Kuwait is around 2 children, taking into account the different cultures that coexist in the territory. For this reason, today we’ll learn more about the stages of fertility in women.

What are the stages of fertility in women?

Feminine fertility has its beginning from the first menstruation until it does not return for more than 12 consecutive months. At this time begins menopause and therefore goodbye to fertility. This does not mean that a woman is equally fertile throughout this period of time. The most fertile time for a woman begins about 9 years after having the first menstruation. That is, around 20 years, according to each person.

Once this stage of greater fertility is reached, it will last approximately 7 years. The chances of pregnancy decrease with age from 27 years and more notably from 35 years.

What are the chances of pregnancy in each menstrual cycle according to my age?

The highest probability of pregnancy occurs between 20 and 27 years with a 25% chance. At 35 years this percentage decreases to 15%. It is at this time when female fertility begins to fall more rapidly until at 40 years the odds are only 8%, and then fall drastically reaching a probability of 5% at approximately 42 years.

How can the age of the woman affect the health of the baby?

One of the causes that negatively affects the probability of becoming pregnant as it increases the age of the woman, is the increase of the chromosomal alterations in the embryos. There is a correlation between maternal age and alterations in the number of chromosomes in embryos. It has been observed in IVF cycles that women with an age range between 38 and 40 years can have up to 60% of embryos with some chromosomal alteration. This percentage increases to more than 80-90% in women over 42 years of age.

Although most embryos can not survive with this chromosomal abnormalities and are related to implantation failure or spontaneous miscarriage, some others can survive until the end of a genetic syndrome (for example, trisomy 21 related to Down Syndrome).

PGDlabs Kuwait, in collaboration with your assisted reproduction center, can offer you the most appropriate test in your case for the analysis of embryos to detect abnormalities in the number of chromosomes. We can help you to increase your pregnancy rate, to decrease the rate of spontaneous abortions and to reduce the risk of a baby with a chromosomal syndrome.

PGDLabs Kuwait offers all the genetic tests that can be performed in all stages of fertility. This is, before pregnancy (preconception), during the process of fertilization (preimplantation) or during pregnancy (prenatal), carried out by the best European professionals with the latest technology.
